Cinema Wasteland Movie & Memorabilia Expo
April 9th, 10th and 11th, 2010
In 2010, Cinema Wasteland is Celebrating a Decade of Convention Domination, by continuing to bring Fans the best of what the Drive-In’s and Grindhouses had to offer!
To us, there was no better way to celebrate ten years of Cinema Wasteland Shows than by holding an “all zombie show” and celebrating Lucio Fulci’s cult classic, ZOMBIE (aka Zombi 2), with another Wasteland Cast and Crew Reunion!
AL CLIVER - Al Cliver played “Brian Hull”, the American tourist who helps Ian McCulloch and Tisa Farrow get to the island of the living dead in Lucio Fulci’s cult classic, ZOMBIE (1979), but his career was well under way by the time he worked with Fulci. His first starring role was in the Ruggero Deodato thriller, WAVE OF LUST (1975), and his list of horror and exploitation film roles took off from there. You’ll find Al Cliver in several Emmanuelle-titled exploitation flicks, including FOREVER EMMANUELLE (1976) and EMANUELLE’S DAUGHTER (1976) with then girlfriend Annie Belle and BLACK EMMANUELLE, WHITE EMMANUELLE (1976) with Belle and Laura Gemser. He stared with Lina Romay in the cannibal film THE CANNIBALS (1979) and did two more gut munchers with Romay’s director-lover-husband Jess Franco when he did WHITE CANNIBAL QUEEN (1980) and MANDINGO MANHUNTER (1980). ZOMBI 2 (aka ZOMBIE) was the first time he worked with Lucio Fulci but it sure wasn’t his last. He worked on nine films with maestro Fulci, including THE BLACK CAT (1981), Fulci’s horror classic, THE BEYOND (1981) where he was attacked by spiders in the show-stopping spider scene; futuristic sci-fi turkey ROME 2072 A.D. (1984), MURDER-ROCK (1984), TOUCH OF DEATH (1988), SODOMA’S GHOST (1988), Fulci’s made for TV movie, THE HOUSE OF CLOCKS (1989), and possessed nun flick, DEMONIA (1990). He also worked with popular cult horror and exploitation director Joe D’Amato on four films, including 2020 TEXAS GLADIATORS (1982), ENDGAME (1983) and THE ALCOVE (1984) with Laura Gemser, and again in 1986 on D’Amato’s A LUSTFUL MIND. With almost 40 feature films to his credits, it’s probably safe to say that every wasteland attendee will know Al Cliver from at least a dozen imported horror favorites.
IAN McCULLOCH - The first time I remember seeing Ian McCulloch, it was in the killer Golem horror movie, IT! (1967) with Roddy McDowall and Jill Haworth, but it wouldn’t be his last foray into the world of horror films. He shows up in Amicus Films I, MONSTER (1971) with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, and played “Geoffrey” in director Freddie Francis’ THE GHOUL (1975) with Cushing and Veronica Carlson. In 1979 he took the role of reporter “Peter West” and went searching for what happened to Tisa Farrow’s father in Lucio Fulci’s ZOMBIE (1979). The following year, he starred as “Dr. Peter Chandler” in director Marino Girolami’s ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST (1980) also known as “Doctor Butcher M.D.”, one of the most notorious cannibal and zombie horror films ever made. McCulloch did a ton of television between film roles, but came back to take on alien invaders with exploding acid eggs in director Luigi Cozzi’s ALIEN CONTAMINATION (1980) to round out his cult horror movie career.
RICHARD JOHNSON - After serving in the navy during World War 2, Richard Johnson returned to stage acting in London’s West End after the war and made his film debut in the early 1950s. In 1963, he played “Dr. John Markway” in one of the scariest haunted house films ever made; director Robert Wise’s THE HAUNTING (1963) with Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, and Russ Tamblyn. According to some sources, Johnson was considered for the part of “James Bond” in the first Bond film, while others say he was actually offered the role but turned it down as not to sign a multi-picture deal at the time. Either way, he did play the very Bondian British detective, “Bulldog Drummond” in two cool late sixties films, DEADLIER THAN THE MALE (1967) and SOME GIRLS DO (1969). Now would be a good time to go into all of the war films (like ACES HIGH (1976) with Malcolm McDowell and Christopher Plummer), dramas or comedies (like THE AMOROUS ADVENTURES OF MOLL FLANDERS (1965) with Kim Novak), and assorted television work (ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR, THRILLER, TALES FROM THE UNEXPECTED, etc, etc) that Richard Johnson did during his career, but you can go and look that stuff up on his IMdB file for yourself. I’ll just stick to highliting his more “Wasteland accessible” work here for CW fans. You’ll find Johnson playing the creepy “Dimitri” in director Ovidio Assontis’ “Rosemary’s Baby” rip-off, BEYOND THE DOOR (1974), as “Michael Williams” in d/Massimo Dallamano’s possessed killer kid flick, THE NIGHT CHILD (1975), and as “Macauley” in Pete Walker’s THE COMEBACK (1978). Johnson worked with popular horror and cult film director Sergio Martino a couple of times too. He appeared with Barbara Bach in two of Martino’s films: ISLAND OF THE FISHMEN (1979) aka Screamers, and THE GREAT ALLIGATOR (1979). He was cast along with Vincent Price and John Carradine in director Roy Ward Baker’s THE MONSTER CLUB (1980), had a chance to play “Dr. Watson” alongside Charlton Heston’s “Sherlock Holmes” in THE CRUCIFIER OF BLOOD (1991) and even showed up recently in LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER (2001) with Angelina Jolie. For over five decades, with well over one hundred screen credits to his name, Richard Johnson continues to act on both the big and small screens. We here at Cinema Wasteland couldn’t be happier that he accepted our invitation to join us for the April show.
OTTAVIANO DELL’ACQUA - Stuntman and actor, Ottaviano Dell’Acqua may have had an uncredited role in Lucio Fulci’s ZOMBIE (1979), but it sure was a memorable couple minutes of screen time. Ottaviano played one of the long dead Conquistadors who rise from their graves as zombies to terrorize the cast and give the bite to “Susan” before Al Cliver and Ian McCulloch bash the creature’s head in. It’s the very same zombie that shows up on U.S. posters and movie art worldwide. But with almost 200 stunt credits and another 65 or 70 film roles to his name, CW fans are bound to know Dell’Acqua from several imported drive-in favorites. He worked with director Umberto Lenzi on everything from dramas to fantasy-adventure films. Maybe you caught him as an undercover cop in Lenzi’s DEATH DEALERS (1976), or as a zombie in CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD (1980), or noticed him in IRON MASTER (1983)? He worked with Ruggero Deodato as both an actor and stuntman in ten different films, including THE CONCORDE AFFAIR (1979) and CUT AND RUN (1985), while doing stunts in Deodato’s THE BARBARIANS (1987) and PHANTOM OF DEATH (1988) to name but a few. As a stunt man, Dell’Acqua has worked on such well known “wasteland-type” flicks as Luigi Cozzi’s STARCRASH (1978), Margheritti’s CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE (1980), Bruno Matti’s WOMEN’S PRISON MASSACRE (1983), LADYHAWKE (1985), RED SONJA (1985), DEMONS (1985), NOSFERATU IN VENICE (1988), THE SECT (1991), and THE STENDHAL SYNDROME (1996). As an actor, Ottaviano worked with Sergio Martino in the western, MANNAJA: A MAN CALLED BLADE (1977), and the futuristic sci-fi thriller 2019: AFTER THE FALL OF NEW YORK (1983); with Bruno Matti in RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR (1984), Enzo Castellari in ESCAPE FROM THE BRONX (1983), the Claudio Fragasso zombie flick AFTERDEATH (1988), Fulci’s ZOMBI 3 (1988), and even Martin Scorsese in GANGS OF NEW YORK (2002) to name but a few.
ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES!... And one Zombie Master.
Can’t get enough of the Living Dead? Then check out our other well known Zombie Guests!
SHARON CECCATTI-HILL - Sharon’s most well known “cult” role may be that of the “Nurse Zombie” in George Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978), and due to finding her zombie image on pictures, posters and books, that image is known the world over. She’s also appeared in films like KNIGHTRIDERS, where she also did location casting, and shows up as the blond nurse in HELLRAISER 3. Sharon spent over 20 years as a casting director and worked with such directors as Ron Howard, George Romero, and Michael Chapman to name but a few; did an eight year stint assistant director of operations at a music amphitheater that hosted everyone from Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC to Billy Joel and Brooks and Dunn, and has scouted locations for films that has taken her as far away as Spain and Morocco looking for bullring locations. She even joined the David Copperfield Tour and traveled the world helping to put on 500 shows a year for the world renowned magician. Recently, Sharon returned to the screen with small roles in the drama END GAME (2009) and the soon to be released RIVER OF DARKNESS (2010) that stars fellow CW Guest, Bill Hinzman.
BILL HINZMAN - Bill Hinzman began his film career behind the scenes as a photographer and cameraman. He began his career in front of the lens as the infamous “Graveyard Zombie” in George Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968). He went on to work with Romero again on his little seen THERE’S ALWAYS VANILLA (1971), was the cinematographer on THE CRAZIES (1973), and quickly appeared in the nightmare sequences in SEASON OF THE WITCH (1973) where he also did lighting and camera work. As a director, Bill brought the world THE MAJORETTES (1986), and produced, directed, and edited the gory little cult classic zombie flick FLESHEATER (1988) also known as “Revenge of the Living Zombies”. Bill was also a producer, cinematographer, and/or appeared in SANTA CLAWS (1996), the 30th anniversary edition of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1999), CHILDREN OF THE LIVING DEAD (2001), and SALOONATICS (2002) to name a few. He’s worked on documentaries, sports highlite videos, low budget horror films... It’s safe to say our old friend Bill Hinzman likes to stay busy and he’s always working on one project or another. Recently, he had a little role in SHADOW: DEAD ROT (2006) staring Tony Todd, played a zombie in the sci-fi/horror outing IT CAME FROM TRAFALGAR (2009), showed up as a bartender in the low budget horror outing THE SPOOK SHOW (2009) and has a lead role in the upcoming RIVER OF DARKNESS (2010).
JIM KRUT - In a fan favorite scene from DAWN OF THE DEAD, a helicopter blade slashes the top off zombie Jim Krut’s head; and for that reason, Jim will forever be remembered as “the helicopter zombie” to legions of zombie movie fans world wide. A former actor with two Pittsburgh theatre companies, Jim has performed extensively in the United States, did tech work with The Living Theatre, and continues to act on the Gettysburg Stage, where he recently starred in DRACULA, AMERICAN BUFFALO and RATS. Jim also had a role in the eclectic 2004 independent film, GUATEMALAN HANDSHAKE, as well as a lead part in director Gary Ugarek’s low budget zombie outing, DEADLANDS 2: TRAPPED (2008), and the anthology horror film ZOMBTHOLOGY (2009). Currently a communications manager, Jim has also edited a magazine, won awards for his writing and photography, and enjoys crafting radio spots and videos.
TOM SAVINI - To horror movie fans, Tom isn’t just an actor, director, and stuntman. No sirree, to most fans, Tom will always be “The Guru of Gore”, a masterful makeup effects artist that created some of the most memorable “splatter” effects to ever ooze down the silver screen. He began his effects career working on the 1972 Bob Clark film DEATHDREAM and the 1974 shocker, DERANGED. In 1976 he began his partnership with George Romero acting and doing the effects for Romero’s vampire tale, MARTIN. He also worked with George Romero on DAWN OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW, DAY OF THE DEAD, TWO EVIL EYES and MONKEY SHINES. You can also catch his splatter filled craftsmanship in FRIDAY THE 13th - PARTS 1 and 4, Bill Lustig’s classic MANIAC, THE BURNING, THE PROWLER, and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 to name but a few of the films Tom has left his mark on. In 1984, he began directing with a trio of “Tales From the Crypt” episodes, and in 1990, he was given the chance to direct a feature film with the updated NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD ‘90. He finished up with the first installment of his CHILL FACTOR short film series with the episode HOUSE CALL in 2004, showed up as a Sheriff in the DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004) remake, appears as zombie “Blade” in Romero’s LAND OF THE DEAD (2005), and can be found in PLANET TERROR (2007), as well as LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE (2008), and recently completed horror films, THE DEAD MATTER (2010), MACHETE (2010) and HORRORWEEN (2010) to name but a few.
KYRA SCHON - Kyra was “Karen Cooper”, the little girl-turned-zombie in George Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD that did her mom in with a convenient garden trowel. Her image from the classic scare film is one no fan can escape as its been used on posters, video boxes, and promotional items we have all seen numerous times over the years. All grown up now, she is an accomplished artist in her own right that offers custom sterling silver jewelry, original collectibles that feature her classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD image, and a series of original “Spiffy Cards” - greeting cards that feature her beloved pooch and inspiration, Spiffy. Kyra’s an old friend to us here at Cinema Wasteland and it’s been a couple of years since she was last with us. It’s always a pleasure to have her partying a Wasteland Weekend away with the rest of us fans, so we’re glad to have her back as part of our 10th anniversary Zombie Celebration.
HOWARD SHERMAN - His mom might know him better as Sherman Howard, but to any fan worth their weight in trivial knowledge, you’ll know him as “Bub”, the scene stealing zombie from George Romero’s DAY OF THE DEAD (1985). Having spent most of his career in television and non-horror film roles, Howard doesn’t have all that many “horror movie” credits to his name. He does however have some memorable film and TV roles under his belt, like continuing character “Peter” from the MAX HEADROOM TV series, a hitman in LETHAL WEAPON 2 (1989), “Lex Luthor” in the 1989-1992 SUPERBOY TV series, “Dr. Dietz” in THE STAND (1994) mini-series, and too many TV guest appearances to name here. He’s also been doing a lot of voice work the past few years for cartoons and animated series. Howard doesn’t do all that many appearances, so break out those “Bub” photos and DAY OF THE DEAD posters when he joins us for our “Zombie Celebration” this Spring.
As always, Don’t Forget about our equally important Returning Guests and Regulars:
A. GHASTLEE GHOUL - The host of the Dayton and Springfield Ohio area’s long running, late night, horror-comedy schlockathon known as “The Ghastlee Movie Show” has been spewing video-vaudevillian cheese and sleaze to the untold millions... ah, hundreds... OK, dozens of fans held captive by his wit and wisdom for over twenty years now. Regularly joining Ghastlee for a Cinema Wasteland weekend is long time cohort in crime, Jeff McClellan: American, as well as Louu the XXXmas Devil, Suspira, and Mayhem Zann; members of the garage-punk band, SPLATTERTUDE. In addition to having Ghastlee and his band mates prowling our dealer and guest room all weekend long, why not join A. Ghastlee Ghoul (along with the motley band of “Ghastlee Nite Players”) every Saturday night, beginning at 8:00pm in Movie Room 1, as he presents A GHASTLEE NITE AT THE MOVIES LIVE SHOW, where he hosts a night of music, comedy, skits, interactive games and prize giveaways that has become somewhat of a drunken Saturday night tradition at Cinema Wasteland over the years. A. Ghastlee Ghoul has been with us since our very first show and we’ve sort of adopted him as our official Wasteland horror host. And although many a horror host has come and gone from Cinema Wasteland shows over the years, you can always count on Ghastlee, (along with Son of Ghoul), to be with us twice a year. And if you need a Ghastlee fix between Wasteland shows, don’t miss A. Ghastlee Ghoul’s Splattertude radio show, which has recently moved to his own splattertude.com site so fans can now download the shows.
AMY LYNN BEST - Amy Lynn Best, a Pittsburgh PA native, has studied acting and dancing since she was three years old. She co-produced and costarred in the independent feature horror film, THE RESURRECTION GAME (2002), and like many independent film producers, she learned the film business from the ground up. On the short haunted house film, TENANT, Amy studied cinematographer from that film's director of photography, Bill Fuller. Out of necessity, she learned the basics of grip work, camera operation, and the fine art of line producing. Since meeting her film making husband, Mike Watt, she has acted or worked on nearly a dozen films, including the critically-acclaimed feature, AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (2000), DR. HORROR’S EROTIC HOUSE OF IDIOTS (2003), along with ABATTOIR (2007) SPLATTER MOVIE (2008), and DEMON DIVAS AND THE LANES OF DAMNATION (2009), the latest from her and Watt’s Happy Cloud Pictures.
RON BONK - Ron began making movies in 1992. Although his main interest was in directing and producing, the necessity of making sure his movies sold with honest accounting also fell on his own shoulders, so he ventured into distribution. With the success he had marketing his own productions, other filmmakers offered Ron their work to distribute as well. It wasn’t long before the demands of a running a successful B-movie distribution company took over any time he had left for directing so in recent years, Ron has become more of a producer; establishing two production divisions of his company in St. Louis and Lexington and making movies to meet marketplace demands. His company, SRS Cinema, now represents over 200 movies and Ron has directed or produced over 25 feature motion pictures over the years. Among his many ventures, Ron established the B-Movie Hall of Fame in 1998 and the B-Movie Film Fest in 1999. Both have gone on to great acclaim and he hopes to establish a museum in Syracuse for the Hall of Fame one day.
42nd STREET PETE - Long time Wasteland friend, 42nd Street Pete, is our “go to guy” when it comes to all things Grindhouse. Why? Because he was there. He lived the era. In the Grindhouse heyday through its demise in the 80’s, the guy lived Times Square and all of the good, bad, and ugly, that went along with it. Hookers, peep shows, drugs, bums, mobsters, and the infamous grindhouses were all part of Pete’s life. Back in 2004, Pete hosted UNCONVENTIONAL, a look at the 13th anniversary of the Chiller Theater convention in New Jersey. A couple years back, he started hosting 42nd STREET PETE’S 8mm MADNESS; DVD collections of forgotten 70’s stag loops. Recently, he’s found himself in a few soft core spoofs like THE INSATIABLE IRON BABE (2008) and BATBABE: THE DARK NIGHTIE (2008). He’s also hosted his share of Drive-In and Grindhouse movie panels at past Cinema Wasteland shows, as well as his “42 Questions From 42nd Street Pete” trivia game during A GHASTLEE NITE AT THE MOVIES LIVE SHOW on Saturday nights.
SON OF GHOUL - With over twenty years and somewhere in the neighborhood of over 1,000 shows under his belt, Son of Ghoul is Akron and Cleveland’s longest continuous running horror host, as well as a long time regular here at the Cinema Wasteland show. Live in the Cleveland or Akron area? Then by all means, see if you can’t catch Son of Ghoul’s movie show every Thursday afternoon and Friday night. A life long Three Stooges fan that can actually boast that he owns all 190 Columbia produced Three Stooges shorts on 16mm film, Son of Ghoul presents a trio of Stooge Shorts every Saturday at Noon in Movie Room 1. After all, Cinema Wasteland and the Three Stooges go together better than drunks and strippers!
TOM SULLIVAN - Tom was the makeup effects man, prop builder, stop motion animator... ah, hell, he did so much behind-the-scenes work that I feel Tom is at least partially responsible for the entire look and feel of Sam Raimi’s cult horror favorite, EVIL DEAD. He also worked plenty an uncredited job on EVIL DEAD 2 and did some work on THE FLY 2 for Chris Wallas. A talented artist, Tom has also done illustrations for collectible card games, film production companies, book illustrations, and designed the ultra-cool “Book of the Dead” DVDs for the Anchor Bay limited edition EVIL DEAD and EVIL DEAD 2 releases. Currently, Tom worked on TOM SULLIVAN’S BOOKS OF THE DEAD comic series from Dead Dog Comics and found himself taking a few acting roles in films like the horror-comedy BUDDY BEBOP VS THE LIVING DEAD (2009), DOG (2009) and A SHEER AGENDA (2009). Tom is a regular here at Cinema Wasteland and has become a real fan favorite guest. He has his own “Sullivan Museum Room” at the show where he puts original EVIL DEAD props, storyboards and artwork on display for all attending fans to see up close and personal. It’s always our pleasure to have Tom as part of our Cinema Wasteland Family and let him get a little credit where credit is due - with the fans. Be sure to stop in and see what Tom has in store for all you fans this time around.
MIKE WATT - Writer, director, and journalist Mike Watt wrote and directed THE RESURRECTION GAME and Bloody Earth Film's A FEAST OF FLESH (aka "Abattoir") through Happy Cloud Pictures, which he co-founded with the lovely and talented Amy Lynn Best and the less lovely but also talented Bill Homan. He also wrote the screenplays for SEVERE INJURIES, WERE-GRRL, SPLATTER MOVIE: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, DEAD MEN WALKING for The Asylum and THE SCREENING for G. Cameron Romero. He's the current editor of Sirens of Cinema Magazine - if you aren't reading it, that's proof that children have truly been left behind.
** ALL GUESTS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR ALL 3 DAYS OF THE SHOW UNLESS NOTED **
Guest appearances are based on schedules permitting. Guests do charge a nominal fee for autographs. Show events are naturally subject to change.
ALL OF OUR GUESTS WILL BE SET UP IN AMONGST THE VENDERS IN OUR 10,000 SQUARE FOOT DEALERS ROOM FOR EASY ACCESSIBILITY ALL THREE DAYS OF THE SHOW.

Can’t get enough of the Living Dead?
Then check out our other Zombie related Guests!
BEATRICE RING - To European film fans, Beatrice had a short but memorable career in front of the camera; appearing in everything from comedies to thrillers, and horror films within a ten year period of time. A trio Wasteland fans may recall include Lamberto Bava’s GRAVEYARD DISTURBANCE (1987), where she spent the night in some creepy underground catacombs beneath a spooky old church. She and costar Ottaviano Dell’Acqua tried to out run an island full of zombies by hiding in an abandoned hotel in the Lucio Fulci, Claudio Fragasso, and Bruno Mattei co-directed ZOMBI 3 (1988), and Beatrice was eaten in the love story with a cannibal twist, RITUAL OF LOVE (1989), which was actually based on a true story. Beatrice Ring is making her first ever convention appearance at Cinema Wasteland this April, and we couldn’t be happier that accepted our invitation.
