Breaking: ABC renews 'Castle'
by Michael Ausiello
This just in: ABC has renewed Castle for a 22-episode third season!
The Nathan Fillion-Stana Katic mystery-comedy has been on a ratings upswing this season, posting double-digit increases over its season 2 average. Last night’s episode — the conclusion of the two-part Dana Delany event — attracted the show’s largest audience to date (14.5 million viewers) and earned ABC its best scripted performance in the time-slot in 14 years.

NBC PICKS UP NEW MID-SEASON DRAMA 'PARENTHOOD' FOR 2010-11 SEASON
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - April 20, 2010 - NBC has renewed its new mid-season drama "Parenthood" (Tuesdays, 10-11 p.m. ET) for the 2010-11 season. The announcement was made today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.
"We are so happy to welcome back this multi-layered and compelling series about an extended American family for another season," said Bromstad. "It's gratifying that 'Parenthood' continues to garner critical acclaim and is generating highly positive reaction from viewers, thanks to the fearless creativity of its producers and the extraordinary performances delivered by its ensemble cast."
"Parenthood" has averaged a 3.2 rating 9 share in adults 18-49 and 7.8 million viewers overall since its March 2 premiere in the Tuesday (10-11 p.m. ET) slot, according to "most current" data from Nielsen Media Research. "Parenthood" ranks #1 in the time period in adults 18-49 versus regular competition and was the first regular in the slot this season to out-rate an original of CBS's "The Good Wife" in adults 18-49.
In addition, "Parenthood" is one of the most upscale series on primetime broadcast television, ranking in the top 10 in terms of the concentration of homes with incomes of $100,000 or more in its adult 18-49 audience. It's also a highly time-shifted show, adding an average 32 percent to its adult 18-49 rating when going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven day" Nielsen results, and adding an average 26 percent or 1.8 million persons in total viewers.

FX ORDERS SEASON TWO OF JUSTIFIED
Network Orders 13 Episodes for Second Season from FX Productions and Sony Pictures Television
Six All New Episodes Remain in Season One, Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PT With Season 1 Finale Airing June 8
Season One (First-Run) Averaging 3.4 Million Total Viewers and 1.7 Million Adults 18-49 With Multi-Run Weekly Average of 7.5 Million Total Viewers and 3.9 Million Adults 18-49
Basic Cable's #1 New Series In Delivery of Men 18-49
LOS ANGELES, May 3, 2010 - Justice has been served, as FX has ordered another season of its newest critically acclaimed hit drama series Justified, picking up a 13-episode second season, today announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks. Six all new episodes remain in season one, airing Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PT, with the first season finale airing on June 8th.
"We are very excited about the tremendous, widespread acclaim that Justified has received from both audiences and television critics," said Landgraf. "Graham Yost, Tim Olyphant, Elmore Leonard and their talented partners have crafted a uniquely ambitious and entertaining series which is everything we aspired to when we developed the show."
Developed for television by Graham Yost and starring Timothy Olyphant, Justified (TV-MA) is based on the popular Elmore Leonard character "Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens" from his short story Fire in the Hole and some of his other novels.
"I'm just thrilled, and I'm looking forward to chronicling the future adventures of Raylan Givens," said Yost. "To work with an actor like Tim, who was born to play this role, has been a wonderful experience."
Through seven weeks, first-run episodes of Justified are averaging 3.4 million viewers and 1.7 million Adults 18-49. The weekly multi-run average viewership for the series is 7.5 million total viewers and 3.9 million Adults 18-49 (six episodes). Justified is this year's number-one rated new series on basic cable in delivery of Men 18-49 (1.1 million). Justified was the most-watched series premiere in FX history, with 4.9 million total viewers, surpassing The Shield's 4.8 million total viewers (3/12/02).
"This pick-up speaks volumes to the quality and collaboration on the series, and our unparalleled partnership with FX," said Jamie Erlicht, President, Programming for Sony Pictures Television. "The viewer response to Justified has been as enthusiastic as ours was when we first heard the pitch."

Fox picks up four pilots, renews 'Lie,' 'Target'
Exclu: Fox has picked up four pilots to series for next season and has renewed bubble shows "Lie to Me" and "Human Target."
The network has greenlighted Shawn Ryan's latest police drama "RideAlong" and Texas-set drama "Midland" (now likely called "Lone Star"), as well as single-camera comedies "Traffic Light" and "Keep Hope Alive."
The decisions represent the network's first wave of pickups for next season.
"RideAlong" is set in Chicago and follows a rogue cowboy cop and the city's first female police chief as they try to clean up the streets. "Midland" is a dramatic soap about a con man in the oil industry.
Greg Garcia's single parent half-hour "Keep Hope Alive" and the male relationship comedy "Traffic Light" have been early frontrunner for a pickup, and are expected to represent at least a one-hour comedy block for the network's fall schedule.
The network is also set to renew "Lie to Me" for a third season despite Ryan departing as showrunner.
Warner Bros.-produced "Human Target" will get a second season with Matt Miller ("Chuck") taking over as showrunner (with first season showrunner Jonathan Steinberg continuing as an executive producer on the series).
No word yet on the fate of other pilot frontrunners such as Steven Spielberg's "Terra Nova" and "Breakout Kings."
More to come...

Chuck fans can relax: you've got the guy for another season thanks to NBC's decision to renew. David E Kelley's legal show Kindreds has been given a 12- or 13-episode series order for midseason.

Amidst a flurry of renewals tonight comes word from multiple sources that ABC has axed the Alyssa Milano-headlined freshman comedy Romantically Challenged. In less surprising news, the Alphabet net has also canceled Better Off Ted, Scrubs, and FlashForward. An ABC spokesperson had no comment.
