well, I'm about to replace the hard drive in my other Directv Tivo. I've been experiencing audio dropouts quite a bit lately. it's been said that is the beginning signs of a failing drive. I just replaced the drive in my other DTV unit because I starting getting constant reboots after the recent 6.3e update. true, the hard drive may have been going before the update(I haven't hooked up the phone line on this unit as I'm trying to prevent it from getting updated again for now) so I'm on the fence at the moment. now if I change the hard drive in this unit and i get 6.3e in a matter of days afterwards and I start getting reboots again I'll give them a month(the issue has been going on for around 3 weeks now) so that would be a time frame of around 2 months to fix an issue that they claim doesn't exist. if they continue to ignore the issue I'm going to assume that they are quietly sabotaging the Tivo units in order to get as many of them out of households as they can(since any time yu call with anything regarding the Tivo units they immediately try pushing their own dvr on you with a lovely 2 year contract). the main reason I stayed with DirecTV was the Tivo. now that I own so many standalone units I could move to Comcast full time and wouldn't lose a bit of sleep over it. plus it would save me $ every month.
of course the above only applies "if" the new hard drive takes a dump after only a few days of being installed with the new update. if everything gets updated and it works without daily reboots I'll be nice and peaceful with my DTV service.
